Bjorn Again

In America everyone knows about Elvis impersonators. This friend-of-a-friend fellow who recently gave me a call, being here in Dublin, knows someone who has made a living for twenty years helping people relive the splendor of his majesty, The King. It is a noble endeavor, well worthy of Making A Living.

Judging from the bills posted up everywhere, Dublin is rich with tribute acts like these. Those broadsheets (except on walls reading "post no bills") proclaim every manner of entertainment- albums, gigs, new films, shows. . . . On a lucky weekend evening, the fan eager to hear music he loves live and loud can catch The Stoned Roses, The Third Coming (Stone Roses tribute bands), The Australian Doors, The Australian Pink Floyd show, Zoo 2, an energetic Madness-impersonator band who put on a good show at Break For The Border but whose name I've forgotten, or Bjorn Again.

Bjorn Again?

ABBA Impersonators?!

Yes my friends, ABBA and The Bee Gees are quite popular in Dublin these days. So are 90's knock-offs of Bee Gees type acts, pure pop stuff. Of course, the city is so musically rich that these can easily be avoided.

Last December I caught a performance of Abba-esque in one of those Midnight at the Olympia shows. (The Olympia Theater is right across the road from Dublin Castle. There's this Chinese fast food joint right beside-- SCOFSVILLE!) The place was JAMMERS. Thousands of people! Singing and dancing along!

Who'd a thunk it?

These four came out-- costumes, lights, singing, choreography-- Energy!

You can dance-!--- You can ji-ive! Having the time of your li-ife-!!!!"

"And this is nothing, compared to Bjorn Again!!" exclaimed Ann, one of Carmel and Therese's friends who teamed along.

The chicks nodded fervantly and jiggled their buttocks.

It was a damn fine show.
